Many evangelicals say that becoming a christian is a way to change one's life for the better, that Christ and His Gospel of salvation is the answer to sin and its disastrous affects. Indeed, many "born again" christians come from lives of brokenness and dispair; former drug addicts and dealers, from abusive relationships or have been abusers themselves, criminals and the worse of the worse...and all found that after realizing thier sin and taking responsiblity for it and accepting Jesus Christ as thier peronal Lord and savior, thier very character changed and they left those lives forever. This is commendable of course, but it was not the reason I came back to Christ and His Church.
I wasn't looking for a change or a cleasning, or even salvation...I merely wanted to exemplify my gratitude to God for all the blessings in my life, despite of or inspite of its many hardships, by serving and worshiping Him correctly, that is by doing it the way Jesus commanded. I knew of and believed in Jesus Christ, but I wasn't serving Him.
